About
the LSSO
The
Lake Shore Symphony Orchestra is a not-for-profit Symphony
Orchestra whose primary focus is to provide high quality,
affordable music in the community, to establish an opportunity
for musicians in the Chicago area, and to offer educational
opportunities for children, seniors, and people with limited
access to the arts .
The LSSO performs 4 major concerts a year, featuring soloists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, other internationally known artists as well as commissioning new works by present-day composers.
The LSSO is also very involved in community outreach and regularly performs side-by-side with the NCPHS Orchestra. In February of 2010, LSSO will host a Young People's Concert where nearly 1,000 4th/5th graders from the surrounding community will be exposed to famous composers and musical masterpieces. One of LSSO's trademarks is their audience-friendly, themed concert programs. For example, the 2008/09 Season, which was also the 35th Anniversary Season, featured "A Viennese Celebration" in which audience members were treated to traditional Viennese delicacies and desserts while winding thru a display of beautiful pictures of Vienna. During the 2009/10 Season, audience members will learn about the planets from an actual Adler Planetarium astronomer during a concert that features Holst's "The Planets". This kind of interaction is rare for a community orchestra as well as a public concert-goer! We are proud of the quality of music and attention given to our audience base and look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
